Mad Max: Fury Road made its world premiere at the esteemed Cannes Film Festival back in 2015. Furiosa, will also return to the renowned festival for its international premiere in 2024. This information was released just two days after a new trailer was unveiled.
Anya Taylor-Joy replaces Charlize Theron as the film’s lead character, Emperor Furiosa, while Chris Hemsworth co-stars. As the world collapses, fifteen to twenty years prior to the events of Mad Max: Fury Road, little Furiosa is abducted from the Green Place of Many Mothers and given up to a Biker Horde under the command of the Warlord Dementus.
Thirty years after Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome, the Cannes premiere of Fury Road rekindled director George Miller’s post-apocalyptic saga. Over $380 million was made by the movie globally. Furiosa will be released by Warner Bros. at the festival on May 22. On May 24, the U.S. release date is scheduled.
The 77th Cannes Film Festival takes place from May 14–25. At a press conference in Paris next month, the festival will reveal its complete 2024 schedule. Although Furiosa isn’t scheduled to compete in the festival, it is a blockbuster premiere that has been added to the program and lineup.
