Lucasfilm has unveiled the first trailer for The Acolyte, the next Star Wars series, as was announced yesterday. This follows a significant Monday that included the unveiling of a new poster, the release date, and the first synopsis of the story.
According to the summary, “a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems….”
Development on The Acolyte began in 2020. Later that year, on “Star Wars Day,” Lucasfilm hosted an annual celebration where fans got a first peek. However, it seems that the series has been stuck in numerous stages of development.
The series will debut with two episodes on the day of release, as the trailer teased. Under the pretense of an investigative thriller, the series appears to be taking a more cerebral approach to relaying Star Wars stories. It remains to be seen if this can win over disengaged Star Wars fans to the current trend, with Dave Filoni producing more films down the road.
