Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a top 5 MCU film, that’s how good it is. That said, the first two Guardians films are also in my top five so I’m a sucker for these films. Take what I say with a grain of salt.
In Vol. 3, James Gunn says his goodbyes to the MCU. And he does it by making the most emotionally wrenching movie in the franchise. This time we focus on Rocket and his shocking origins, and we are introduced to a villain from his past played by Peacemaker’s Chukwudi Iwuji. Iwuji joins what is already a stellar cast who all get their moments to shine in another well-written script. The Guardians’ arcs are all handled with care, picking up in the strange place where The Avengers films left off.
The movie packs the laughs and another great soundtrack, and some of the most unique visuals in any superhero film to date. Guardians 3 is the film of the year as of its release and feels like the true beginning for Phase 5, righting the course from Quantumania.
