Frida (Amazon Prime Video)
Carla Gutierrez’s 2024 documentary Frida is a biography of Mexican painter Frida Kahlo. It was initially screened at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, when Gutierrez made her directorial debut and took home the Jonathan Oppenheim Editing Award for U.S. Documentary. The American Society of Magical Negroes
In 2024, Kobi Libii made his directorial debut with the American Society of Magical Negroes, an American satire comedy film that he wrote, directed, and produced. Justice Smith, David Alan Grier, and An-Li Bogan make up the cast. The synopsis reads, In order to pursue their lifetime goal of making white people’s lives easier, the main character, Aren, is enlisted into a mystical organization of African Americans. After making its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, Focus Features is releasing the movie in theaters this weekend.
Arthur the King
Mark Wahlberg, Simu Liu, and Juliet Rylance star in Simon Cellan Jones‘ 2024 American adventure picture Arthur the King, which was written by Michael Brandt. The 2016 nonfiction book Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home by Mikael Lindnord served as its inspiration. In the movie, an adventure racing team’s captain makes friends with Arthur, a wounded stray dog, and the two go on a demanding 435-mile (700-kilometer) endurance race in the Dominican Republic. Arthur the King releases in theaters March 15, 2024.
Irish Wish (Netflix)
Irish Wish is an American fantasy romantic comedy film, written and directed by Kirsten Hansen and Janeen Damian. Alongside Brad Krevoy, Michael Damian, the husband of Damian, served as a producer on the movie. The film stars Lindsay Lohan, this being her second consecutive effort with Netflix. Ayesha Curry, Ed Speleers, and Alexander Vlahos co-star. On March 15, 2024, Irish Wish will stream live on Netflix.
One Life
James Hawes is the director of the 2023 biographical drama film One Life. Based on the actual account of British humanitarian Sir Nicholas Winton, it recounts his earlier experiences in 1938–1939, shortly before the start of World War II, helping groups of Jewish youngsters in German-occupied Czechoslovakia hide and escape. Sir Nicholas is portrayed in the movie by Anthony Hopkins and Johnny Flynn, with Lena Olin, Romola Garai, and Alex Sharp in supporting parts. The film is set to release Friday, March 15, in theaters.
