As the spring season got underway in March, there were a lot of movie and television premieres. April, the height of spring, is here. There are a lot of highly anticipated series that are debuting this month. There’s a program for you, no matter what genre you like!
Ripley – Netflix
April 4
The Talented Mr. Ripley, a 1955 crime novel by Patricia Highsmith, serves as the basis for the upcoming American psychological Netflix thriller show Ripley. Ripley was initially scheduled to premiere in February 2023 on Showtime. Steven Zaillian developed, wrote, and directed the eight-episode limited series, which stars Dakota Fanning as Marge Sherwood, Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, and Andrew Scott as Tom Ripley.
Sugar – Apple TV+
April 5
This month marks the release of Sugar on Apple TV+, a genre-bending modern twist on the Los Angeles-set private investigator thriller. Colin Farrell, who also acts as executive producer, stars in the Mark Protosevich-created series, which is directed by Fernando Meirelles. The series’ rights were secured by Apple TV+ in a bidding war that was announced in December 2021. Production on the show started in August 2022.
Fallout – Amazon Prime
April 12
Amazon Prime is attempting to capitalize on the notoriety of the beloved video game series Fallout, following the last big budget adaptation for the company with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. The live-action project, which follows survivors of a post-apocalyptic nuclear exchange seeking refuge in underground bunkers called Vaults, will be helmed by Jonathan Nolan, co-creator of Westworld. The show stars Ella Purnell as the lead and Walton Goggins as a mutant gunslinger and bounty hunter.
Franklin – Apple TV+

It was first reported in February 2022 that Kirk Ellis would be penning and Tim Van Patten would be directing the upcoming historical drama Franklin on Apple TV+. After a few months, Howard Korder joined the project as an executive producer and writer.
Michael Douglas will play the title role in the television program that adapts Stacy Schiff’s book “A Great Improvisation: Franklin, France, and the Birth of America.” The story explores one of Franklin’s greatest wagers made during his professional life. Franklin, at seventy years of age, outwitted British spies and French informants to orchestrate the 1778 Franco-American alliance.
The Sympathizer – HBO Max
April 14
The Sympathizer is a historical black comedy-drama television series based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s 2015 Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Co-showrunners Park Chan-wook and Don McKellar created the series, which premieres on HBO on April 14, 2024. The story follows the Captain, a North Vietnam plant forced to flee to the US with his general. The series is produced by A24 and Rhombus Media, with Robert Downey Jr. joining as a producer and co-star. The state of California awarded over $17.4 million in tax credits for production. The series was produced in both Los Angeles and Thailand.
Under the Bridge – Hulu

The planned American true crime drama television miniseries Under the Bridge is based on Rebecca Godfrey’s book of the same name. It takes place after Reena Virk’s death, as a woman delves into the shadowy world of the alleged murderers. Riley Keough stars as Rebecca Godfrey, while Lily Gladstone, off the heels of her stellar performance in Killers of the Flower Moon, plays a cop by the name of Cam Bentland.
The Veil – Hulu
April 30
The Veil is an upcoming American thriller television series, written by Steven Knight and produced by FX Productions. Starring Elisabeth Moss and Yumna Marwan, the series follows two women traveling from Istanbul to Paris and London, each with a secret to expose. Filming took place in Turkey, Paris, London, and Kent, England, with locations including Canterbury Cathedral. The series premieres on Hulu on April 30, 2024.
