Netflix’s Damsel presents itself as a visual spectacle, but it falls short in delivering a fully cohesive plot. The narrative revolves around heroic adventures and meaningful family connections. It kicks off with Millie Bobby Brown‘s character being wedded to a wealthy royal family, only to find herself abruptly thrown into a dragon’s dungeon, forced to navigate perilous situations alone.
Millie Bobby Brown, a remarkable actor, undoubtedly has many better movies ahead of her. Her portrayal of fear is overwhelming at times, often punctuated by frantic screams. However, amidst the chaos, she manages to depict her character’s transformation into a hero, serving as a potential inspiration for young women.
The film also features Angela Bassett and Robin Wright, who bring their considerable talents to the table. Yet, their contributions are overshadowed by the limited screen time and character development they receive.
In essence, Damsel fails to hit the mark of being a big action flick. Its lack of storytelling and inability to get off of the ground, caused this film to land flat. Would I watch it again? Honestly, no. It’s a one-time viewing experience that may satisfy some audiences, but for me, it doesn’t leave a lasting impression.
The Review
Damsel
Damsel offers stunning visuals but falters in storytelling, blending heroic adventures with familial connections. While Millie Bobby Brown impresses as a relatable heroine, supporting talents like Angela Bassett and Robin Wright feel underutilized. Despite its potential, the film fails to leave a lasting impact due to weak narrative and slow pacing. While entertaining for a single viewing, it lacks the depth to merit revisiting.
