One of my personal favorite reality series is Love is Blind. Nothing compares to witnessing the emotional and interpersonal turmoil between two searchers of love. I’ve watched this program at many different periods of my life: single, dating, engaged, and now that I’ve seen the last few seasons with a spouse, I have a whole new, more complex viewpoint. After season 6 concluded recently, let’s order the six seasons thus far, going from worst to best.
Season 5
Love is Blind: Season 5 is one that should not have even been aired. The quality of this season was far below others, at times feeling like they were trying to scrape up a show out of nothing. Out of the seemingly dozens of singles that entered this experiment, unfortunately, only one couple said, “I do.” Milton and Lydia were by far the most unlikely pairing. Lydia did herself zero favors with her choice of words at many moments in this season. The season lacked a couple to root for, and the stories lacked any emotional connection. The only aspect of drama is between Uche and Lydia regarding her obsession to get in the middle of his dating life, since they had once met before the show. We were left with a wedding episode no one was excited about and a reunion episode full of unentertaining gossip.
Season 3
Love is Blind: Season 3 was ultimately unentertaining despite so many couples matching and falling in love in the pods. It was full of disappointing results and flat-falling weddings. We had 5 couples match in the pods and only 2 couples who surprisingly stuck it out and decided to get married. Alex and Brennon are perhaps one of the strongest couples to come from this experience, while on the show we can see that although they came from different backgrounds; opposites can attract. Matt and Colleen are another couple that said I do at the altar. This stunned many as their relationship seemed on rocky seas at times. The other 3 couples that did not make it were just not as interesting. Their chemistry was not always there, with one partner always seemingly more into the other; it lacked content for the audience to be intrigued.
Season 2
Love is Blind: Season 2 usually gives us a few couples who go on to live happily married lives. This season, however, resulted in only two couples saying ‘I do’; and then sadly divorcing one year later. This season was slightly more entertaining with the addition of Shane, a goofy guy who falls head over heels for Natalie. Their relationship is what makes this season so heartfelt. As I watched this season, I only felt like I was watching it to see if Deepti would ever notice that Shake was not a good guy. This season lacked an all-around interesting cast to be excited about watching.
Season 1
Love is Blind: Season 1 makes its way towards the top of this list simply because, in my opinion, original seasons always hold a special place in my heart. This is the first time anyone is witnessing and participating in the experiment, and it makes the show even more interesting. A standout couple was Jessica and Mark. Jess being a financially stable “older” woman compared to Mark, would occasionally take jabs at Mark for being a younger man. This kept me wondering if Mark would ultimately say yes at the altar. The “After the Altar” episodes in this season were very entertaining as many couples reunited after saying no to each other at their weddings.
Season 4
Love is Blind: Season 4 is ranked higher for me just because of the rollercoaster of emotions that we are taken on. This season continues to leave you guessing who will say yes when they get to their wedding, and who will leave their partner sobbing at the altar. As I watched this season, I went back and forth between two couples, Kwame and Chelsea; and Paul and Micah. Ultimately, this season and the people in it, are the most likable, and you genuinely want to see them be happy.
Season 6
Love is Blind Season 6, although the most recent, is by far one of the most quality seasons of reality TV I have seen. The hook for me was Chelsea accusing Jimmy of being with another woman. Without context to the situation, I was left wondering what happened. Throughout this season, many of the cast were in difficult situations trying to decipher who would be the right fit for marriage. The love triangles kept me guessing until the very end. This season caught social media by storm and led to Love is Blind experiencing a resurgence in viewing ratings. The drama unfolded week after week with comments about Megan Fox, “Bean Dip”, and Jeramy’s location scandal. This season is reality TV gold if you are an enthusiast like me!
